Camp Information Guide 2021 – K-5 Information Guide 2021
Q – How do I get a copy of my receipt for income tax?
A – We will issue receipts for all E-Transfer payments through the email you have provided. A receipt will be issued immediately for cash payments.
Q – I’m not sure if my E-Transfer payment went through.
A – Email us at [email protected] and we’ll get you what you need.
Q – Where are you located?
A – 248 Bradley Lake Rd. Rothesay NB
Q – What does camp cost?
A – K-5 Camp costs $175 per week.
Middle School camp: $130
CIT (Counsellor in Training): June 28-30 Training + 1 Free Week C.I.Ting = $100.
Q – Our plans have changed, can we get a refund?
A – Refunds are available up to 1 week before camp. There is a $50 cancellation fee because it costs us money to register campers, and it cost us money to return your money. Also, it’s become a far too common practice for parents to sign a kid up for camp, “just in case” they decide to send them and then cancel last minute. We turn campers away every year and spaces that can’t be filled go empty. This helps us avoid that. The full fee of camp can be transferred to another camper at anytime with no penalty.
Q – What is canteen and how do I make sure my camper gets it?
A – Canteen is part of our program. Everyday at 3:00 we have 1 or 2 items available for the campers. We have a traditonal canteen/tuck expereince with Pop, chips, freezies, etc. However, we do also have healthier snacks for sale (cheese & crackers, fruit gummies, apple sauce, etc.)
On the first day of camp you’ll be asked if you want your camper to have canteen. If you would like your camper to particate it is $8 for 1 item per day or $15 for 2 each day of camp (ONE time payment of $8 or $15 not $8/$15 per day). We will set up a “tab” for them and keep track of it each day.
Q – Why do you do canteen?
A – We are a summer camp, for these 5 days our job is to cater to your camper’s hearts desire. Candy is part of the camp experience. What else can we say. Kids love candy. Trust us, we know not every parent is thrilled with this part of our program, and we will discreetly honour the wishes of any parent who wishes to have a camper abstain.
Q – What about allergies/asthma?
A – You won’t ever find a peanut/tree nut in anything offered at our canteen. We are a peanut free zone. When you register, you will be asked to provide all pertinent medical information. That info is organized and on the day of camp given to the counsellors who are responsible for your child. If an epi-pen or puffer is required, it will always be in the possession of the camper’s counsellor who is never far from you camper. If you prefer your camper carry their own, we are happy to accommodate that as well. We take food allergies very seriously and will do everything we can to ensure your camper is safe and able to partake in the entire camp experience. Let us know what we can do and we’ll make it happen.
Q – What about gluten?
A – As part of our program we prepare fun survival foods. Pasta, rice, pita pizzas. We always have gluten free versions of this on site.
Q – Why didn’t my child get the exact size shirt they ordered?
A – We make 2 shirt orders over the course of the summer. Because we use colored shirts to identify our teams we don’t know exactly who needs what color shirts until the day camp starts. This means that sometimes depending on the week attending and the team they are on a camper may get a medium instead of a small or an adult small instead of a child large. We do our very best.
Q – Is there a different theme/program each week?
A – Yes and no. We run the same schedule each week, we teach the same skills each week but group dynamics, weather and the creativity of our staff make each week unique. We have campers attend multiple weeks and never have the same experience twice.
Q – How do I make sure my child is on the same team as their friends?
A – Just let us know. That’s easy for us to do.

Q – What is closing?
A – On Friday we invite parents, grandparents, anyone important to our campers, to our closing (COVID-19 regulations permitting). At 3:00 we will be presenting awards to our campers and giving them an opportunity to show off all the cool stuff they learned and did all week.
Q – What if we are late arriving?
A – Our program starts at 8:30. We spend roughly ½ an hour going over homework and getting ready for the mornings activities. We head out on our morning adventure at roughly 9:00. If you know you are going to be late call us at 647-7825 BEFORE 9:00 and we’ll be happy to make arrangements to make sure staff are at the cabin to greet your camper(s).
Q – What time do I drop campers off?
A – We have staff on site to receive campers at 7:30. The program starts at 8:30 sharp. When you arrive please Sign In the camper (s) you are bringing.
Q – When do I pick campers up?
A – The program ends at 4:30. Staff will be onsite until 5:30 or until the last camper is picked up. Again, when you arrive please Sign Out the camper (s) you are bringing.
Q – What if I’m running late?
A – We will never, ever, ever, leave a camper (or CIT) alone at camp. In the event that a child is still remaining at camp after 5:30 we will begin contacting parents, guardians, emergency contacts etc. to ensure the camper gets home safely. In 13 years, we’ve seen it all. Construction, flat tires, emergencies, accidents, miscommunication. Things happen, whatever you are in the midst of you can rest assured your camper is safe with us. We can be reached at 647-7825 if you need to inform us that you will be late.
Q – What if it rains?
A – We get wet. (The ONLY time we cancel outdoor activities is in the event of a lightning storm)
Q – What if it gets REALLY hot?
A – Water is always available, and we encourage campers to drink lots of it. Sunscreen is applied every morning and after lunch. The natural canopy of our forest provides amazing shade. Hottest days will always involve a water fight or a water game. At the hottest part of the day we’ll slow down, chill out and stay cool. Staying cool is part of survival too! We have never, sent a camper home with a sunburn.
Q – How should my camper dress?
A – Send campers dressed for the weather. Boots, sneakers, are the only footwear appropriate for camp. Please do not send your camper in sandals, flipflops, or crocs. Please ensure your camper has a complete change of clothes with them each day.
Q – What does my camper need to bring?
A – WHAT TO BRING:
Water Bottle
Lunch and Snacks
Water Bottle
Change of clothes
Water Bottle (we can’t stress this enough)
Swim stuff, towel (We DO NOT swim but we do get wet)
Bottle for putting water in
Extra Socks
Sun Screen
Bug Spray
W.B. (Short for Water Bottle)
Q – Can I send a phone with my camper?
A – Yes, but please understand we are in the woods 90% of the time and weather can be unpredicatable.
Q – Does my camper need to bring a knife?
A – Under no circumstances is a camper to bring a knife to camp. (No matter what they tell you). If a camper arrives at camp with a knife it will be taken away immediately.
Q – Does my camper have any reason to bring a lighter or matches?
A – Nope. Fire is part of our program but it is only used in a controlled environment under strict conditions. Campers will be provided everything they need and the proper instruction to use fire safely and responsibly.
Q – What is a CIT (Counsellor in training)?
A – Being a CIT is an opportunity for campers entering grades 6-9 to learn leadership skills and stay connected to the camp they grew up with. Being a CIT has lots of perks, your own 1 to 2 day training session (mandatory), canteen (2 Items per day), CIT t-shirt, and the opportunity to work with the staff in the planning and organizing of camp. Becoming a CIT is a pretty big deal! This year we are accepting 5 CIT’s per week and you need to register for your weeks prior to camp starting. $100 is the cost for training and 1 free week being a CIT.
Q – What is a Junior Counsellor?
A – We are unable to offer Junior Councellor positions for the 2021 season.
Q – What is your policy on bullying or bad behavior?
A – We love our campers, we will do anything and everything within our power to make your campers experience at camp the greatest ever. In order to endure this atmosphere any camper choosing to act in such a way as to negatively effect another camper or the staff’s running of the program will be removed from the rest of the camp. Parents/guardians will be asked to come pick up their camper. In 16 years, we’ve only sent a handful of campers home based on behavior.
Q – What in the heck is a Golden Mike? (Winners and losers)
A – You will hear a lot about how the team your camper is on has a list and they need to get certain things added to the list. (Like a Golden Mike). “The List” is our way of awarding each team based on their strengths. We believe campers need to experience healthy competition. We don’t buy into the concept “everybody wins”. Our program tailors itself to each individual’s ability. Every camper is pushed, challenged, given the tools to succeed. At KV Survival Camp “NOBODY LOSES”. Losing is impossible when you can do anything!
Q – How do I contact someone RIGHT NOW!?
A – If you have a question or concern about during the off season email us at [email protected], or find us on Facebook HERE. We’ll get back to you right away. Honestly, we’re all connected via the interweb.
If you need to talk to us during camping season, at camp between 7:30 and 5:30 call us at 506-647-7825.
